Tour of Scotland proves a hit!

Fourteen hours, eight cities, and one birthday cake all went into an epic celebration of Mensa’s 70th anniversary in Scotland.

Scottish officer Derek Sellar and his wife Marjie set out to meet as many Mensans as possible by visiting all of Scotland’s cities in one day, October 1 – 70 years to the day since Mensa was formed.

Derek reasoned that holding one event in an area as sparsely-populated as Scotland would be impractical for most members – so instead of inviting Mensans to a party, he took the party to the Mensans!

The tour started in Glasgow and visited Stirling, Edinburgh, Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen and Elgin before the couple finally made it to Inverness 14 hours after setting off at 7.30am.

Derek said: “The weather and absence of road works on our route helped immensely.  We made all our targets on time and were only 10 minutes late at the final destination in Inverness.

“We took a birthday cake with us, cut it to some ropey singing of Happy Birthday to Mensa in Glasgow and everyone who turned up got a bit as we went along.”
