Surf’s Up at IMAG

IMAG 2013

Cindy Friers reports from the Irish Mensa Annual Gathering 2013…

At 9.30am on Saturday morning in Portrush several hardy souls were up and out for the beginners surf lesson. The trainee surfers began with some instruction on the beach then it was out to the sea to put into practise what they had learned on shore.

On Sunday there was a coach trip to local attractions and a boat trip which gave the opportunity to view the Giant’s Causeway from the sea. The return trip included the Carrick-a-rede Rope Bridge from which could be seen Larrybane a location for Game of Thrones. The sea was a little choppy and I was worried that the boat trip may have been cancelled or I would be seasick but it was all fine. The faster the boat went over the waves the less it rocked, we went out to a few small islands called the Skerries and then along the coast past the Giant’s Causeway. It was great to see the coastline from a different angle.

IMAG took place on 3-6 May 2013 please keep an eye out for details of 2014’s event in Limerick coming soon.
