Mensan to appear on Christmas edition of University Challenge

Mon, 23/12/2013
Chris Leek

Tune in to BBC Two tonight (Monday 23 December) to see British Mensa Board Member Chris Leek take part in a special University Challenge. Chris was invited to represent the alumni of Aberystwyth University in a Christmas edition of the show.  The Aberystwyth team, which also includes Dan Jarvis MP, Dr Timothy Brain and Elfyn Llwyd, will go head-to-head with prominent graduates of Keele University.

Chris is keeping his cards close to his chest regarding the result but commented on his involvement;
When the BBC first approached me – I thought ‘no chance’. I’m good at problem-solving, but was slaughtered the last time I took part in a local school quiz. I always enjoy a challenge though, so against my better judgement I accepted the invitation. On the day itself the presenter Jeremy Paxman made us feel at ease and the whole experience proved to be very interesting.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology Chris has gone on to lead a varied career; he currently works as a Portfolio Designer for BT Openreach and resides in Cheshire. He has previously been a Chairman of British Mensa and remains a Director. Chris is also a national representative on the society’s International Board of Directors.

The show will be broadcast at 8pm and will also be available on the BBC’s iPlayer service.
