Wolverhampton Monopoly - Mensa

Today (9 October) saw the launch of the Wolverhampton Edition of the classic board game Monopoly which features 22 city landmarks including British Mensa. John Stevenage, CEO, attended the launch at Wolverhampton Grammar School (pictured) with representatives of other landmarks on the board.

Although British Mensa has over 21,000 members across the British Isles they have a long association with Wolverhampton. Their headquarters have been based in city for many years, with the majority of their staff hailing from the local area.

Mensa, the High IQ Society, is 67 today! The society was formed by Roland Berrill, a barrister, and Dr Lance Ware, a scientist and lawyer.

The story goes that in 1946 they met on a train journey in England and developed the idea of forming a society for bright people, the only qualification for membership of which was a high IQ. The Society has now grown to over 110,000 members around the world.

In recent years host cities have included Belfast, Coventry, Chester and Bristol, as the event continues to move around the British Isles. Next year we’re already signed up for Cardiff.
