Elementary - Sherlocks on trail of a world record

Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes fans are invited to pick up their deerstalker and magnifying glass and head to Yorkshire this month for an unusual world record attempt.

The Yorkshire Brain Research Centre is aiming to break the record for the biggest gathering of people dressed as the famous sleuth - and organisers are keen to get Mensans involved.

The record bid takes place at Temple Newsam in Leeds on August 31 from noon until 4pm. Everyone who takes part will receive a deerstalker, pipe and magnifying glass, and there will be a range of events and activities taking part at the same time as well as some special guests.

There will also be a Sherlock raffle, with prizes including scripts from the popular BBC Sherlock Holmes series and signed photos of its star Benedict Cumberbatch.

The event is to raise money for brain research, and the organisers hope more than 2,000 Sherlocks will turn up to get involved.

Registration costs £15, or £20 with a raffle entry included. Register at, or search for @sherlockrecord on Twitter and /sherlockworldrecord on Facebook.
