High IQ - Gift or Challenge?

Understanding and coping with an intelligent mind

By British Mensa and Kendall Tuition

Saturday 21st April 2018

13:00 - 17:00

The Bristol Hotel, Prince Street, Bristol, BS1 4QF

Being labelled as gifted is exciting, but it’s rarely easy. It can be a struggle to fit in with a society that doesn’t understand and makes you feel ‘different’. An IQ test can reliably predict academic accomplishment, but it doesn’t suggest a person will be successful at work or in life. In some cases, the opposite may prove true.

Join Lyn Kendall, Mensa’s Gifted Child Consultant, at the Bristol Hotel for an afternoon of invaluable information and advice on dealing with high intelligence. Lyn will explain what it means to have a high IQ and both the advantages and downsides to being bright. The session is informal, family-friendly and recommended as being suitable for anyone over the age of 10.

13:00   Coffee and registration
13:30   Why bright sparks don’t know it all
16:30   Questions from the audience and general discussion
17:00   Close

During the workshop, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Discover what it means to have a high IQ.
  • Consider how a high IQ affects relationships with others.
  • Learn how to overcome the challenges of ‘growing up gifted’.
  • Explore ways of channelling intelligence constructively.
  • Develop techniques for controlling emotions and frustrations.

Here’s what people had to say about the last workshop:

  • “A most informative and pleasant afternoon – glad I came!”
  • “A lot of advice to take forward in terms of parenting.”
  • “The personal examples made things easier to grasp.”
  • “Lots of time after to ask questions.”
  • “Very relaxed and accessible.”
  • “I could relate as a parent.”
