Young maths genius Sikander Ali from Nelson, Lancashire has got an A in his GCSE – despite being just 12 years old! He took the exam four years early and what is even more remarkable is he only started preparing for it in February this year. The former Junior North of England Under 10’s Chess Champion who is a pupil at Clitheroe Royal Grammar School was delighted with the result.
Sikander, who became a member of Mensa at the age of 11, hopes to embark on the Maths A-Level programme next. He is pleased with his result despite the nerves;
“I was very nervous. I was a bit off-putting with all the people around me in the massive hall. I am disappointed it’s not A* but I am still incredibly pleased with an A.”
Sikander's other hobbies include football and reading. He has already taken his first flying lesson and hopes to hold a Private Pilot’s Licence by the age of 17. He is also an active member of Pendle Martial Arts Academy where he is a Purple belt in Ju Jitsu.
His Mum Yasmeen added:
“Obviously I am very proud of my son; he is a very determined, ambitious and hard working young boy. We've had a small party to celebrate and he got a well deserved Playstation 3 as a present.”
