SIGHT helps Mensans see the world

05-Feb-10

Richard Kingston, Mensa International SIGHT Coordinator explains how Mensa’s SIGHT programme can help members:

‘Many Mensa friends tell me that some of their most positive experiences in Mensa have been through meeting members in and from other countries, especially the sharing of culture and perspectives. Mensa's own Service of Information, Guidance, and Hospitality to Travellers (SIGHT) brings together Mensa hosts and travellers with the assistance and guidance of national and regional SIGHT Officers.

‘Indeed, it is fair to say that SIGHT is probably the main mechanism for connecting Mensa members internationally especially since it is represented in 56 countries and is available to all Mensa members including direct international members (DIMs who do not belong to any national Mensa group).’

What is SIGHT?

SIGHT was proposed and founded in 1967 by June Alexander Solntseff, who was then living in Australia and is the way that Mensans can get to meet other Mensans while travelling either within their own country or internationally.

National or regional SIGHT Coordinators give advice and information to travellers on such subjects as where to stay, what to see or do, how to travel from one place to another as well as keeping records of Mensa hosts who are prepared to help Mensa travellers by for example showing them around their local area, arranging meetings with other Mensans or by welcoming them into their homes.
